George Kittle just wants more time to heal during a grueling NFL season.
The 49ers tight end recently joined Kevin Hart’s Cold As Balls show and stated that he wants a second bye week added into the season. He believes that the physical toll is too great and one bye week isn’t enough.
“There’s a huge physical toll,” Kittle said, via Yahoo Sports. “And like, 17 games is a lot. It’s a lot of games, with one bye, whether it’s Week Four or the bye is Week 11. I’m advocating for two byes.”
“If you can get that to happen, that would be cool,” Kittle then told Kevin Hart.
The comedian assured the tight end that it was a done deal.
It should be noted that the NFL Player’s Association reportedly pushed for a second bye week during their Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations with the NFL, but it was not accepted.

Adding a second bye week would most certainly be a huge change to the current schedule, as the league would be forced to institute a 19-week regular season, assuming they’d want to keep the current 17-game format. That would also require the league to either start the season one week earlier (which is unlikely, with Labor Day weekend always situated one week before the NFL’s opening week), or push the Super Bowl one week back into mid/late February.
Maybe one day it’ll happpen.
As for Kittle, he is coming off a 2021 season where he racked up 910 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 71 receptions last season en route to his third career Pro Bowl selection. Over his career, Kittle has amassed 335 receptions, 4,489 receiving yards, and 20 touchdowns.
