The trash talking between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs for Super Bowl 58 has commenced — with none other than Nick Bosa kicking things off.
Bosa was asked about Chiefs offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor and the Kansas City o-line during his meeting with reporters on Thursday. The 2019 Defensive Rookie of the Year kept it perfectly blunt and stated, “They hold a lot.”
The thing is, Bosa isn’t wrong — at least about Taylor.
The 26-year-old was the league’s most penalized player this year (20) on 1,076 offensive snaps, per Pro Football Focus. Now, offensive holding happens on just about every player, but 20 penalties is a clear indicator that Taylor hasn’t been able to get away with it very often this year.
Bosa and the 49ers’ other edge rushers vs. Taylor and veteran offensive tackle Donovan Smith will be a key matchup to follow in Super Bowl 58. The 49ers managed to sack Patrick Mahomes four times in Super Bowl 54, but the pass rush suddenly went invisible during the Chiefs’ fourth quarter rally.
Mahomes was only sacked twice by the Baltimore Ravens, the league’s No. 1 defense, in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game. He wasn’t sacked at all against the Miami Dolphins or Buffalo Bills in Kansas City’s two previous playoff games.

The 49ers will need Bosa and their top pass-rushers to get to Mahomes this time around, otherwise Super Bowl 58 will likely be close to a repeat of their first big game meeting four years ago.
