The San Francisco 49ers have added a veteran defensive lineman and former Super Bowl cmpion to bolster their postseason push
As first reported by NFL Network’s Jason McCourty, the 49ers have signed defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day. CBS Sports NFL insider Josina Anderson added that it’s a one-year prorated deal for the 28-year-old.
Joseph-Day’s championship experience can only help the 49ers, who have come oh-so-close to a Super Bowl championship with GM John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan at the helm. The 49ers lost Super Bowl 54 to the Kansas City Chiefs and have lost each of the last two NFC Championship Games.
Joseph-Day, of course, was on the 2021 Los Angeles Rams team that eliminated the 49ers in the NFC Championship. The Rams went on to defeat the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl 56, inside LA’s home venue of SoFi Stadium no less.
The Rutgers product spent his first four seasons with the Rams before joining the Los Angeles Chargers on a three-year deal worth $24 million in 2022 free agency.

The Chargers waived Joseph-Day just last week ahead of their Week 16 home loss to the Buffalo Bills, but he didn’t have to wait long for more work. Joseph-Day now joins a 49ers team that boasts the NFC’s top record at 11-4 with just two weeks to go.
For his career, Joseph-Day has 11 sacks, two forced fumbles and 31 combined tackles.
