Odell Beckham Jr. was ever so close to taking his talents to the San Francisco 49ers this offseason, if only the team inquiring about their services were willing to give up the #2 overall draft pick for him, an official from the New York Giants told Jay Glazer of The Athletic.
“The 49ers were in several different times,” Glazer writes. “They tried during the season and they tried here in the offseason. Someone with the Giants told me they were asking for the second pick of the draft from the 49ers, which the 49ers weren’t willing to do.”
The 49ers were rumored to be strongly in the mix for OBJ, but the Giants would go on to ship him to the Cleveand Browns for safety Jabrill Peppers, the 17th overall selection, and a third-round pick.
According to Glazer, the 49ers made several attempts to acquire Beckham going back to the 2018 season.
Beckham hauled in 5,476 yards and 44 touchdowns over 59 career games with the Giants.
