The Cowboys fell to the 49ers, 23-17, in the Wild Card round of the playoffs on Sunday afternoon at AT&T Stadium.
It was an extremely rough game for Dak Prescott and the Cowboys’ offense. Prescott was 23 of 43 for 254 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The offense was a far cry from what it was at the beginning of the season and they never really recovered.
Following the game, a 49ers defender admitted that the team’s defense wanted to make Prescott attempt to beat them.
“We went in there and did what we needed to do: Stop the run and force them to be one-dimensional. See if Prescott could win the game for them,” 49ers player Jimmie Ward said.
The Cowboys run game was virtually non-existent and it gave the 49ers defense exactly what they wanted and that was Dak having to throw the ball, which he did 43 times on the day.
Prescott was forced to use his legs when he scrambled for 17 yards before giving himself up at the 24-yard line with around 8 seconds remaining. It was a bad decision that was made worse when the clock continued to tick as the Cowboys rushed to line up in an effort to spike the ball. But a play can’t start until an official sets the ball. By the time the official caught up with the play and set it, the clock read 0:00.
