Drake Jackson’s rookie contract with the San Francisco 49ers is worth just over $5.8 million for four years, and he was forced to spend a good chunk of that bill on a hefty team dinner tab…
Or so he thought!
As you can see in the video clip below, the 49ers’ rookie defensive end was pranked into thinking he had to pay a dinner tab that totaled $322,391.05. Per Over the Cap, his 2022 base salary is $705,000, so he couldn’t have been happy about the thought of having to spend nearly half of that on a single meal.
Thankfully, it was all just a joke, else Jackson would have probably had to approach the 49ers’ front office to see if they’d be interested in getting starting on his contract extension.
While everyone on Twitter was under the impression that the vets were seriously leaving Jackson and the rookies with a $322K bill, star defensive lineman Arik Armstead took to social media to clear things up.
According to Arik, the bill was a fake one that the waitress over-inflated. The dinner actually turned out to be just $7,500, with Armstead and two of the other veterans chipping in $1,000 each.

That left just $4,500 for the rookies to split amongst themselves.
The 49ers drafted Jackson in the second round (61st overall) in this year’s draft. The USC product has played 34 percent of the team’s defensive snaps through 14 games, recording three sacks, seven pass defenses and 14 combined tackles.
The 21-year-old Jackson is part of a San Francisco defense that has allowed the fewest points this season (15.0 per game). Following a 3-4 start, the 49ers rallied with seven consecutive victories en route to the NFC West division crown.
San Francisco clinched the division by defeating the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football last week. They are just one game behind the Minnesota Vikings (11-3) for the second seed in the NFC.
Jackson and the 49ers will try to keep the winning streak going when they host the playoff-hopeful Washington Commanders this Sunday at Levi’s Stadium.
