A former Super Bowl champion of the San Francisco 49ers has tragically passed away.
Former 49ers linebacker Craig Puki has died at age 66, according to the team.
In a tweet, the 49ers said the following:
“The 49ers mourn the passing of former LB Craig Puki. Our thoughts are with his friends and family.”
Puki was picked in the third round by San Francisco in 1980 out of the University of Tennessee, where he played running back his rookie year before transitioning to linebacker. San Francisco limped to a 6-10 finish during his rookie season.
He played three NFL seasons, the first two with the San Francisco 49ers. He was a member of the legendary Super Bowl-winning 1981 club, which won the first of the franchise’s five Lombardi trophies.

He played in all 16 games for each of his two seasons with the 49ers, racking up two fumble recoveries and an interception.
In 1982, his final year in the NFL, he joined the Cardinals and played seven games with them before calling it a career after three seasons.
