What started out as a dream campaign has ended in despair for Brock Purdy, with the San Francisco 49ers quarterback potentially set for a six-month layoff.
Purdy suffered a torn UCL during the Niners’ AFC Championship title clash with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday and, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, will be out for half a year. Both Schefter and Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network are reporting that the QB is seeking second opinions in a bid to avoid surgery and be back in time for training camp.
“the initial hope is he can undergo a repair—not reconstruction (aka Tommy John)—and will be ready for training camp,” Pelissero tweeted on Monday evening.
The 49ers were dealt a poor hand during yesterday’s game, losing both Purdy and his backup, fourth-string QB Josh Johnson, to injuries. Even Christian McCaffrey lined up as a signal-caller on a certain play.
There was very little hope San Francisco would be able to overcome their woes and they ended up getting routed 31-7, with the Eagles progressing to the Super Bowl, where they will face AFC Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.
