Brock Purdy’s recovery has hit a snag and he could possibly miss the start of next season following the elbow injury sustained during the NFC Championship Game earlier this year.
The San Francisco 49ers are hoping Purdy will be ready to go by the time the 2023 campaign gets off the ground, yet those prospects could be thrown off as the player will push his surgery back.
According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, purdy met with Dr. Keith Meister this week and was advised to postpone the operation because of inflammation in the joint. While this could wreck the Niners’ plans, there is still a strong possibility of the young signal-caller returning in time for the start of the season.
“They’ll reconvene in early March. All signs continue to point to a UCL repair that would have Purdy ready for the 2023 season,” Pelissero noted.
Purdy was having a remarkable season before suffering a UCL tear during the aforementioned game. Several 49ers players are of the view that they would have progressed to the Super Bowl had it not been for the untimely setback.
There were strong claims of the team keeping Purdy as their starter for 2023 but that now depends on how quickly and how well he could recover.
