It hasn’t even been two years since the New England Patriots drafted Mac Jones, and yet the Alabama product is already starting to surface aplenty in trade rumors.
As previously noted, it was recently reported by Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports Boston that New England head coach Bill Belichick remains furious with Jones for seeking advice on running the offense “outside the building”.
Not only that, but it was also reported by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk that Belichick has been shopping his starting quarterback. A source also told Florio that the Las Vegas Raiders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Houston Texans and Washington Commanders are among the “potential destinations” for Jones.
The Raiders feel like an unlikely landing spot now after signing ex-Patriot and 49er Jimmy Garoppolo to a three-year contract. The Texans hold the No. 2 selection and are assured either Alabama’s Bryce Young or Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, assuming they’re intrigued by both prospects.
But the Commanders and Buccaneers certainly make sense as players for Jones. Washington has Sam Howell and veteran journeyman Jacoby Brissett atop their quarterback chart, and the Bucs have Baker Mayfield and 2021 second-rounder Kyle Trask.

If Belichick is indeed trying to move out Jones, the future Hall of Fame head coach will need to find a suitable replacement. Could he make an aggressive move for Baltimore Ravens’ quarterback Lamar Jackson? If not, would Belichick try to move up for a top quarterback in this month’s draft?
It’s rare for a team to give up on a promising young quarterback after two years. but if Belichick can move on from Tom Brady, he can cut ties with anyone. The Jones situation bears plenty of watching leading up to the draft.
