With the regular season just about ready to begin, the New York Giants officially made a huge move when they parted ways with one of their first-round picks from 2019. After dealing with several months of off-field drama, the front office has waived DeAndre Baker.
What sucks for the team is that they traded up to get Baker as he was one of the most intriguing cornerbacks from his class.
The team overlooked his character concerns, and in the end, it bit them in the behind.
Baker was placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List in July, so the second-year cornerback wouldn’t have been able to play this season anyway.
Baker has bigger issues on his hand as he faces life in prison for his alleged role in an armed robbery. Baker — along with Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar — was arrested for allegedly robbing several people at gunpoint during a cookout in Florida.
Witnesses said at the time that Baker pulled out a semi-automatic firearm and directed Dunbar to start taking expensive watches and other valuables from people at the cookout. There was even a claim that he directed a 3rd man to shoot somebody who had just arrived at the party.

Prosecutors later dropped ALL of the charges against Dunbar, but Baker has been formally charged with 4 counts of robbery with a firearm.
If convicted, Baker faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years and up to life in state prison.
