Two NFC heavyweights will reportedly square off in the historic and inaugural first NFL game in Australia in 2026.
The NFL has expanded its International Series significantly over the last two years. Two years ago, it held its first game in Germany, and in September, the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers squared off in São Paulo for the first NFL contest in Brazil.
Now, the Herald Sun (h/t the Daily Mail) in Melbourne reports that the Eagles will also participate in the inaugural NFL game in Australia in 2026. According to the report, it’s believed that the Eagles will face the Los Angeles Rams in the historic game.
The report states that the plan is for the two teams to play at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Yarra Park. The MCG can hold over 100,000 spectators and is the second-largest cricket ground in the world.
It has been reported for some time that an NFL game in Australia would be added to the International Series. The Daily Mail received this statement from the NFL:
“Australia is an important market for the NFL globally and we are committed to growing the game at all levels across the continent. As we’ve previously shared, we’re continuing to explore the possibility of a game in-market.”

The Eagles and Rams squared off in the Divisional Round two weeks ago, with Saquon Barkley and company narrowly squeaking out a close 28-22 victory. Philly went on to defeat the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game, eventually setting up a Super Bowl 59 rematch with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Perfect Choice For The First NFL Game In Australia
The Rams and Eagles have combined to win three of the last four NFC Championship Games, so the NFL would be wise to give Australia a marquee matchup between two powerhouses.
And of course, Eagles star offensive tackle Jordan Mailata is a former rugby star who was born and raised in Australia. The Eagles were impressed by his workouts and drafted Mailata in the seventh round back in 2018.
