One of the NFL’s best offensive coordinators and a future Hall of Famer are reportedly “assured” coaching jobs for the 2024 NFL season.
Speaking on ESPN’s “This Is Football” program (h/t Erin Walsh of Bleacher Report), Sports Illustrated NFL insider Albert Breer reports that Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick are definitely head coaching jobs in 2024.
“I talked to somebody pretty high up with one of these organizations the other day who said to me he thinks there’s two coaches that are assured of getting jobs on the market in 2024 and it’s Ben Johnson and Bill Belichick.”
Ever since the Los Angeles Rams hit the jackpot with the Sean McVay hiring in 2017, the trend has been for teams to hire young, offensive-minded coaches. The 37-year-old Johnson is just that, and his work on Dan Campbell’s staff in Detroit certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Johnson has been with the Lions organization since 2019, and Campbell promoted him to OC duties last year. Johnson has turned quarterback Jared Goff back into a Pro Bowl-level QB, not to mention the work he’s done with star wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown, tight end Sam LaPorta and running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs.
Belichick’s future in New England has been a heavy discussion throughout a miserable 2023 season in Foxborough. At 2-9, the Patriots are on pace to endure their worst season since 1992, when the club went 2-14.

Even if the Patriots part ways with the greatest head coach in NFL history, Belichick will have a very demanding market. Whether it’s in New England or elsewhere, the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach is here to stick around in 2024 and beyond.
