According to reports, 15 fans needed to be hospitalized because of the frigid conditions at the Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday night.
The game between the Chiefs and Dolphins started as the fourth coldest in NFL history, with minus-4 temperature and a wind chill of around negative-30.
The National Weather Service warned fans to cover their entire bodies given the harsh weather. And, per a Kansas City Fire Department spokesperson (via FOX4), first responders handled 69 calls from the game on the night, with 15 persons getting treated at a local hospital.
Fans also got treated at the KU Health System’s first aid station in the stadium. Of the 17, seven were treated for hypothermia and three for frostbite.
“A Kansas City Fire Department spokesperson said the agency handled 69 calls at Arrowhead Stadium as the Chiefs took on the Miami Dolphins amid subzero temperatures.
“KCFD said approximately half of those calls were hypothermia related.
“Of the nearly 70 calls KC first responders received at Arrowhead, 15 people were transported to a local hospital. Seven of those transported were for hypothermia, and three were for frostbite.”
The effects of the cold could be felt all around as drinks exploded, Andy Reid’s Mustache froze over and Patrick Mahomes’ helmet cracked.
