When the Seattle Seahawks use the term “12th Man,” I don’t believe this is what they have in mind.
During Sunday’s game at Lumen Field, the visiting Las Vegas Raiders found themselves up against the 12th man TWICE on the very first play from scrimmage.
First, it was the 12th man in the stands that appeared to rattle Vegas quarterback Derek Carr enough to cause him to throw an interception. Then, during the interception return, a 12th man from the Seahawks bench decided to run onto the field and help his teammates out with some blocking.
You can see it all in the video below. Notice how number 52 in blue suddenly comes out of nowhere to help throw a block on Raiders wideout Mack Hollins?
Luckily it didn’t prove to be costly, as the refs (and most of the viewers watching the game) completely missed the infraction.
That player, by the way, is second year linebacker Darrell Taylor. Perhaps he should have considered running onto the field to help make a tackle on Josh Jacobs’ 86-yard walk-off touchdown in overtime.

The Seahawks struggled to contain Jacobs all day, allowing him to rush for 229 yards and two touchdowns, with an additional 74 yards through the air.
The 40-34 loss drops the Seahawks out of the NFC playoff picture. At 6-5, they sit one game back of the 49ers for top spot in the division, and they are half-a-game back of the Commanders for the final Wild Card spot.
Crazy how quickly things have changed in the Emerald City over the past three weeks. Back-to-back losses in the NFL will do that to you sometimes.
