In today’s NFL, you need to have a good quarterback if you want your team to have any success. You look at a team like the Green Bay Packers who somehow always find and develop amazing QBs. There’s obviously a correlation between that and them being playoff contenders year in and year out.
Some teams however seem to never find the right guy for the job and in turn, have seen very little success throughout their history. That’s why for this list we will be going over 10 Teams Whose Quarterbacks Always SUCK.
Chicago Bears
Maybe things will change if the Bears select Caleb Williams in the draft but if not it’s clear Fields won’t see much success in Chicago. He certainly has the talent to do it somewhere else though. Before that, they took a shot and traded up way too much to select Mitchell Trubisky with the second overall pick. We all know how that worked out.
All you need to know about Chicago and the quarterback is that Jay Cutler is probably their best of all time.
New York Jets
It seemed almost certain Aaron Rodgers was going to change the path of the Jets but after an Achilles tear during their Week 1 matchup it became the Zach Wilson show. A show that many fans in New York would love a refund for.

They of course also had Sam Darnold before Wilson who somehow has had less success than Wilson. In fact, their best quarterback in the last 20 years is probably Brett Favre back in 2008 and that was one of the worst years in his career.
Houston Texans
The Texans finally hit gold when they selected CJ Stroud in last year’s draft, but one Offensive Rookie of the Year performance does not erase a history of bad quarterbacks. Other than Deshaun Watson who Houtons looks to have dodged a bullet on, Matt Chaub is undoubtedly the best QB in the teams’ history.
To be fair they did become a team in 2002 so they haven’t had as many chances to hit on a QB but nonetheless, they make the list.
Washington Commanders
The last time the Commanders had a quarterback make the Pro Bowl was in 2016 with Kirk Cousins and he didn’t even want to be there. Historically they do have some pretty good guys at the position but recently it’s as mediocre as it gets. Since 2018 they’ve had Alex Smith, Taylor Heinicke, Case Keenum, Josh Johnson, Dwyane Haskins, Kyle Allen, Carson Wentz, and Sam Howell all start at least four games.
Way too many names in such a short amount of time.
Cleveland Browns
The Browns are the poster boy when it comes to having a bad quarterback. It’s within its DNA to never have a star at the position. Now stuck with Deshaun Watson the trend will only continue as he has fallen apart since all of his controversies. I could go on to list everyone who’s made a start for them in the last 20 years but that would take up entirely too much space and everyone already knows their story.
Realistically they messed up big time when they got rid of Baker Mayfield as he’s turned into a Pro Bowler, who will get quite the contract this offseason.
Carolina Panthers
That one season of Cam Newton was pretty magical but other than that the Panthers have not had too many big-name guys at QB. After a disappointing Bryce Young rookie season that could continue unless things change. Between Young and Newton, it’s been Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield. None were particularly spectacular either. In fact, other than NEwton the last QB they had make the Pro Bowl was Jake Delhomme in 2005.
Tennessee Titans
The last time the Titans had a true franchise quarterback was Steve McNair and he finished his time in Tennessee all the way back in 2005. They had a real shot with Marcus Mariota after taking him second overall in 2015 but he never developed into what they needed. Tannehill was a nice Band-Aid for a while but nothing more than a game manager. Now it’s a complete mystery who will be at the helm next season.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Trevor Lawrence isn’t bad but he was one of the most hyped QB prospects the NFL had seen in quite some time so it’s disappointing he’s going to be entering his fourth season without having a statement season. That’s pretty stereotypical for Jacksonville though because other than Lawrence in 2022 their last Pro Bowl QB was David Garrard in 2009.
With just two postseason wins Blake Bortles has the second most playoff wins in Jacksonville’s history.
Las Vegas Raiders
Derek Carr is the Raiders’ all-time leader in passing yards, touchdowns, and completions. He certainly had his moments through the years but was never good enough to give them substantial playoff success. They had those few great years of Rich Gannon, but he won his MVP back in 2002.
The whiffed on Jamarcus Russell had a Caron Palmer Band-Aid and not much to discuss other than that. They’ve certainly had more success at QB than most of the other teams on this list but get mentioned anyways.
Arizona Cardinals
As of now, the Cardinals have a super weird QB situation. Kyler Murray won ORoY back in 2019 but has been on the decline the past couple of years after signing a massive five-year $230.5 million extension. A few decent years of Carson Palmer but that only got them one playoff win. Don’t mention Josh Rosen around any Cardinals fans either.
Murray already has the fifth most starts for a QB in Cardinals history despite starting just 65 games so far. Keep in mind that’s a team formed in 1920.
