Today’s NFL is compiled of many questions regarding the face of the franchise. Would they have success on another roster because their talent is underutilized?
Or are they really a product of a system that allows them to thrive more than they would in most situations?
Let’s look at 10 quarterbacks that would not be themselves if they were on another roster.
10. Daniel Jones
Starting off with our number 10 spot on the list is Daniel Jones. While many are thinking that he hasn’t been good in his time as an NFL quarterback, we believe that Brian Daboll is the only reason Daniel Jones was able to take a starting spot again for a couple of seasons. Had Daniel Jones gone to many other squads around the NFL, his days of starting would have been spent transitioning to the clipboard.
9. Baker Mayfield
While we have enjoyed the “Bake Show” down in Tampa, it goes without question that Baker Mayfield has had a rocky start to his NFL career since being drafted #1 by the Cleveland Browns. Seeing multiple other lineups and rosters with Baker as the frontman has given us plenty of evidence that he requires a little bit of help to garner success. We do have to compliment his change of attitude as it has led to fewer confrontations and more success for him and the Buccaneers.

8. Jordan Love
This one may stir some controversy, but we truly believe Jordan Love could have ended up in a few places besides Green Bay and ended up as successful as he is today. Very few franchises will sit a quarterback through their first 3 seasons as a rookie. While his talent is undeniable, we sure can’t imagine Jordan Love still competing in the NFL today if it were for another organization.
7. Patrick Mahomes
Hold on, let us explain, please. Mahomes is without question one of the most talented quarterbacks in NFL history. It is almost impossible he would have the level of success he’s had with the chiefs with other organizations. Having Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, and arguably the greatest coach of all time in Andy Reid, Mahomes has benefited greatly from teammates that will go down as all-time greats. There’s no question that Mahomes is an All-Time talent, but what would it look like under another team?
6. Russell Wilson
While we’re very aware of Russell Wilson’s current trend in terms of starting quarterbacks, we can still look back on his time in Seattle and realize that he was the perfect fit for Pete Carrol’s defense-first mentality of football. Today, Russ can no longer rely on his legs to help him in situations with some of the elite pass rushers we are seeing in the league today. We don’t foresee that changing any time soon when he’s got TJ Watt, Myles Garrett, and a host of Ravens defenders across the line of scrimmage.
5. Matthew Stafford
Stafford has already proven this theory when you look throughout his NFL career. In 12 seasons with Detroit, he was unable to obtain a single victory in the postseason. The Rams however have been a completely different scenario and his statistics have drastically improved under the play-calling of offensive-minded head coach Sean McVay.
4. Jalen Hurts
Of all of the quarterbacks on the list, we think Jalen Hurts fits into the system he plays in better than any other quarterback here. While Hurts work ethic and sheer strength make him a polarizing candidate in the current climate of the NFL, there are still many concerns about reliance on his legs and injury status due to this play style. We may see sooner than later what Hurts looks like under a new coaching regime if Sirianni is unable to fix the offensive woes from this past season.
3. Geno Smith
Everyone loves an underdog story and boy did Geno Smith fit the role with the departure of Russell Wilson. Sadly, it almost feels like a rehashing of the Russell Wilson story from before but with more evidence for lack of success. In his time with the Jets Giants and Chargers, Geno accounted for 29 passing touchdowns. He surpassed that mark in his first season starting for Seattle. We’re unsure of what the future holds for Geno, but we do know his best days are as a Seahawk.
2. Tua Tagovailoa
We have a hard time not pulling for Tua to do well given his fight when it comes to injuries, but we have a hard time seeing him garner success outside of a Dolphins jersey. In two seasons without Mike McDaniels and Tyreek Hill, Tua achieved little success and was benched multiple times along the way. When you look at the receivers and running backs, there’s not much more that could be given to help a young quarterback succeed. The offensive weapons he has in Miami only rival one other team that also makes our list in the number 1 spot.
1. Brock Purdy
Many probably saw this coming, and we want to preface it with the fact that we believe Brock Purdy is a really good NFL quarterback. He has shown the ability to come back in tougher situations, make elite plays, and lead his team to victory. That being said, there is no quarterback who has the weapons that Purdy was given around him. Between yards after catch, MVP-caliber running back, and All-Pro Trent Williams, we find it extremely hard to believe that Purdy would garner near the top of the MVP voting. In fact we feel that Purdy would be a little more irrelevant.
