Prayers are needed this week for a young player in college.
Ohio State announced that tight end Zak Herbstreit was hospitalized on Tuesday. The nature of his health issue was not stated at the time as he has been hospitalized with an undisclosed illness. His family is with him in the hospital.
Herbstreit is being “monitored and evaluated” while currently in stable condition.
“His family is with him and appreciate everyone’s concerns and prayers,” Kirk Herbstreit told ABC 6 via text message on Tuesday.
“The nature of his health issue was not immediately clear, but ABC 6’s Clay Hall confirmed the junior tight end is in stable condition and according to the school is being monitored and evaluated at Wexner Medical Center,” ABC 6 in Columbus reported.
He’s the son of Kirk Herbstreit, a leading college football announcer, and analyst for ESPN. He is one-third of the first three-generation family of players in the school’s history. Kirk was notably a quarterback for the Buckeyes during the 1980s-90s.
Zak Herbstreit is one of four boys. His two brothers played college football at Clemson. His younger brother is a high school football quarterback.

Before heading to Ohio State, the walk-on player had scholarship offers from Dayton, Tennessee Tech, and the University of Tennessee-Martin, but chose his dad’s alma mater.
