A women’s hockey game became the scene of a hilarious brawl on the weekend.
Bulgaria and Romania faced off on the ice and it appears these women really did not like each other as they set off a wild melee on the floor which saw both benches cleared. Of course, such skirmishes are not unusual in this sport, but it wasn’t quite your typical hockey fight.
Hockey Worldwide claims that 554 penalty minutes were dished out, so that should tell you something.
The video below shows two opposing players coming together near the boards, with a Romanian player tripping up a Bulgarian before they both end up on the ice. Two Bulgarians take on the Romanian instigator, leading to absolute bedlam.
Benches are emptied out and players can be seen throwing punches everywhere.
Romania’s goaltender gets in on the action a little late but ends up striking a Bulgarian who is on top of her teammate while the referee is trying to restore order.

The aforementioned source notes that 19 players were penalized while Romania was also handed a 20-minute penalty for abuse of officials.
