If you thought the NFL was bad when it comes to limiting the fun players have on the field, wait until you see what the NCAA deems to be “unsportsmanlike conduct.”
During the latest annual Apple Cup battle between the Washington Huskies and Washington State Cougars, WSU quarterback Jayden De Laura kept the ball on a read option and scrambled for the first down before sliding inbounds, in front of his team’s sideline. And, from there, De Laura struck a little pose before getting back to his feet.
It wasn’t much, but the refs didn’t seem to think so, as they threw a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct.
I could understand if he was doing this in front of the opposing team’s bench, but he wasn’t, which makes this flag a little much…even by college football’s standards.
In the end, it didn’t matter, as De Laura threw for 245 yards and ran for another 31 during a 40-13 beatdown of their bitter in-state rivals.
