Washington Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr. revealed to reporters on Saturday that a prominent NCAA program took away their commitment to him some years ago.
Per Trey Wallace of OutKick-FOX, the superstar Washington QB told reporters that his plans to join the Tennessee Volunteers went to to rest when the school decided to revoke their previous offer to him.
Penix Jr. revealed on X/Twitter back in 2017 that he de-committed from the Volunteers when it was clear that the new coaching staff didn’t want him. He spent four years with the Indiana Hoosiers before joining the Huskies in 2022.
Let’s just say that Penix Jr. got the last laugh by piecing together a season for the ages with the Huskies. The 23-year-old led the group to a Sugar Bowl victory over the Texas Longhorns on Monday to set up a national championship showdown with the No. 1 ranked Michigan Wolverines.
Penix Jr. is expected to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft, and many scouts and analysts believe he’ll be a first-round pick.
