Six major NCAA football programs are reportedly in contention to land Texas A&M star defensive lineman Walter Nolen via the transfer portal.
On Wednesday, On3.com reported that Nolen has decided to enter the transfer portal. The 20-year-old was the No. 1 ranked recruit for the 2022 recruiting class by ESPN and is wrapping up his second season with the Aggies.
Walter Nolen Sr., the father of the Texas A&M stalwart, spoke with Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports earlier this week to and revealed potential landing spots of his son.
From their conversation ,it was noted that Tennessee, Michigan, LSU, Oregon, Georgia and Texas are among the contenders to land Nolen. That said, a return to the Aggies’ program also hasn’t been ruled out.
“I can say the ones that previously had a chance,” Nolen Sr. told Wiltfong. “I don’t want to say every SEC school, but quite a few SEC schools — some College Football Playoff (contenders).”
Michigan is the No. 1 ranked team in the nation and will play Alabama in one of the two College Football Playoff National Championship contests. The other game will see No. 2 ranked Washington Huskies take on the No. 3 ranked Texas Longhorns.

Nolen will not have a problem generating interest from these prominent NCAA programs. The Bulldogs, who won back-to-back national championships in 2021 and 2022, have developed elite pass-rushers left, right and center. Kirby Smart’s group should certainly be among the top favorites to land Nolen if the interest is strong on both ends.
The 7-5 Aggies will conclude their 2023 season against the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the TaxAct Texas Bowl on Dec. 27.
