It was a rough night for Virginia Tech fans on Thursday…especially for one of their fans in particular.
Playing at home in front of a packed Lane Stadium — on ESPN’s nationally televised broadcast, no lees — the Hookies were embarrassed by the West Virginia Mountaineers, 33-10. And the destruction of Virginia Tech wasn’t the only thing viewers on television witnessed last night.
At the end of the third quarter, as ESPN was cutting to a commercial break, the cameras were panning the crowd when one Hookies fan could be seen flipping the people at home the double bird…before instantly regretting his decision.
Why the sudden regret? Did he suddenly realize that his parents may be watching the game at home and his actions could cause them to cut off his weekly allowance? Did he believe his double-bird would get him tossed from the game, thus saving him from having to watch the Mountaineers outscore the Hookies 17-0 in the final frame?
Sadly, we may never know.
