Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young is a contender to go first overall in the April NFL Draft, but his small stature compared to other QBs has plenty of scouts and analysts concerned.
Young’s height has been reported to be in the 5-10 1/2 to 6 feet tall, with his weight coming in at 194 pounds. Young’s frame alone has many wondering if he’ll even be a top-three pick, with Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter, Alabama outside linebacker Will Anderson Jr. and Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud also in the running to go ahead of Young.
On Wednesday, Andrew Groover shared a viral video that shows Young walking at the NFL Combine alongside Michigan tight end Luke Schoonmaker, who’s listed at 6-foot-6 in height. Needless to say, you’ll quickly notice quite the size difference.
The Chicago Bears hold the first overall pick in the draft, but they’re widely expected to trade it. The team already has a young phenom at quarterback in Justin Fields, and Chicago could get a nice return for the pick from a team that is desperate to land Young or Stroud.
The 21-year-old Young backed up current New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones in the Crimson Tide’s 2020 National Championship season. Young led Alabama back to the big game in 2021, but they fell to Georgia.
In 2022, Young completed 64.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3,328 yards and 32 touchdowns against only five interceptions. The Houston Texans (owners of the second overall pick) and Indianapolis Colts (fourth overall) are two teams to watch closely in the quest to land Young.
