A high school football team in Modesto, California, resurrected the “Vomit” fake punt during a game this week, executing it to perfection as they snatched a 59-point win over the embarrassed opposition.
Thomas Downey ran the play last month on a fourth down, pulling it off with the element of surprise on their side. They apparently maintained the surprise, as no one expected them to use it again so soon.
The play has gained a reputation for being one of the weirdest in football, especially in the high school game. It requires the punter to employ a bizarre underhand throw that confuses defenses as they can’t quite tell whether he’s throwing or kicking.

As you can see, it’s still pretty challenging to complete as it leaves a gunner with lots of work to do, given that he still has to catch the ball.

High School Football Head Coach Has Made The “Vomit” One Of His Weapons
Head coach Jeremy Plaa resurrected the fake punt after it had gone unseen for over two decades and has tried it 11 times with three different schools.
It’s worked a respectable 64 percent of the time.
He wasn’t expected to ever call it again after last month, but that obviously worked in his favor as it came back this Thursday.

Of course, Thomas Downey didn’t need to do it but could have afforded to take risks given their huge lead and got a first down off the play.
