North Carolina’s Max Johnson was carted off during the program’s clash against Minnesota after suffering a horrific injury in the third quarter of Thursday night’s win.
Johnson had to be hospitalized after leaving the field, having sustained a low hit from a Golden Gophers defensive player after making a pass under pressure. The pass was not completed, with Johnson unable to rise on his own following the hit. He was helped to the sideline and then carted off to the locker room.
The stadium and the ESPN broadcast booth fell silent after the injury was reviewed while the quarterback was examined on the sideline. His mother was shown crying while watching on from the stands.
“My mom was a 3-time QB mom, it’s a hard job… every eyeball judges a QB on every single play and moms carry that weight,” former Washington QB and current FOX Sports analyst Brock Huard said in an emotional reaction while Max Johnson’s mom was being shown.

Fans Were Praying For Max Johnson After His Gruesome Injury
Johnson transferred to UNC this year after stints at LSU and Texas A&M. He was unable to lock a starting role down during spells with the latter pair but earned the QB1 spot with the Tar Heels.
“I feel terrible for Max Johnson,” a user wrote. “Prayers for that young man.”
“Prayers up for Max Johnson man, that was an ugly situation he was put in once he let that ball go.” said another.
“Prayers up to Max Johnson,” someone else wrote. “Praying for Gods healing power over him quickly.”
UNC hadn’t provided an update on the injury at the time of writing, but the injury definitely did not look good.
We wish him a speedy recovery.
