A video of Travis Hunter’s father watching his son win the Heisman Trophy and bursting into tears has surfaced online after the player’s epic speech.
Hunter surprised everyone with a heartfelt message to his dad, Travis Hunter Sr., who was not in attendance but watched on television as his son was awarded college football’s most prestigious accolade.
“I wanna say something to my father, he’s not here, not able to make it, but I know you’re watching on TV. Dad, I love you,” the Colorado star said as he struggled to hold back the tears. “For all the stuff you went through, man. Now look at your oldest son. I did this for you man. All the times you didn’t get to see me, from the times you came to see my games. From not seeing probably two games in high school, to seeing me on TV every weekend and coming to see me, man. That means so much to me.
“I know you wanted to be here, but can’t. But trust me, I got you and I’m bringing this trophy home. I love you.”
Hunter Sr. was way more emotional than his oldest son while listening to his tribute and cried his eyes out watching from afar.

Why Travis Hunter Sr. Wasn’t At The Heisman Trophy Ceremony
Travis Hunter’s dad made the choice not to attend the ceremony. However, the CU standout had plenty of support, with his mother, girlfriend, coach, and teammate Shedeur Sanders tagging along.
Travis Hunter Sr. told the Palm Beach Post he wanted to be around for more significant life events such as his son’s wedding and the NFL Draft.
“I don’t want to go,” he told the outlet. “I want to be there when he gets married and when he gets drafted. I’m going to watch this from home.”
