Social media is losing their minds after a fan ran a simulation on the EA Sports “College Football 25” video game for the 12-team NCAA College Football Playoff.
This season marks the debut of the expanded College Football Playoff format. The 12 teams to qualify (in order on their rankings from 1 to 12) are: Oregon, Georgia, Boise State, Arizona State, Texas, Penn State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee, Indiana, SMU and Clemson.
The top for teams have first-round byes. The first round matchups are: Tennessee vs. Ohio State, Clemson vs. Texas, Indiana vs. Notre Dame, and SMU vs. Penn State.
X/Twitter user @MattyFreshTV shared a video of a simulation for how the postseason will play out through the “College Football 25” video game. The simulation has Penn State defeating Ohio State in the national championship game on a last-minute touchdown:

As you would expect, football fans had all sorts of things to say about the viral video of the 2025-25 College Football Playoff simulation:
“James Franklin is going to run the table against 4 ranked teams? Hahahahaha,” one fan said.

“If Penn State win the natty, the CFB committee is so screwed,” said another.
“This is awesome but not realistic because James Franklin can’t win any big games,” wrote a Penn State doubter.
“I like this for the fact that it has Texas losing in the first round,” chirped one fan.

“I’m putting together a parlay based off this video,” wrote another.
“The most outlandish thing in this video is Penn State beating Georgia 20-0. I’ll eat my underwear if that actually happens,” a fan boldly stated.
“You had me until the Irish lost to Georgia,” said a fan.
“Need this like I need air,” another said.

Indiana and Notre Dame will kick off the 12-team postseason on Friday, Dec. 20, with the other three matchups taking place on Saturday the 21st.
A New National Champion Will Be Crowned In 2024-25 College Football Playoff
The defending champion Michigan Wolverines failed to qualify for the postseason and will instead play the Alabama Crimson Tide in the ReliaQuest Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
The Washington Huskies, whom Michigan defeated in the national championship game, finished a disappointing 6-6 and will wrap up their campaign with a Sun Bowl clash against the Louisville Cardinals. Among the four semi-finalists from last season, only the Texas Longhorns qualified for this year’s postseason.
So with that, we’re guaranteed a new champion in the first-ever 12-team NCAA football postseason.
