LSU and Florida State squared off in New Orleans in the Caesars Superdome on Sunday night, and one of the Tigers’ most important defenders suffered a potentially serious injury on LSU’s first defensive drive of the game.
Maason Smith, a 6-foot-5, 315-pound defensive lineman, injured his knee while celebrating a stop on second-and-7. The fear now is that he has suffered a season-ending injury.
His lack of presence was felt as the Tigers had some struggles on both sides of the ball.
Tigers head coach Brian Kelly provided an update on Smith’s status, telling reporters that Smith will have an MRI on his injured knee done first thing on Monday.
The Tigers will hope to get Smith back in the fold soon as they prepare to compete for their first win of the season against Southern on Sept. 10.
