True to form, Bill Belichick was tight-lipped and refused to give away much about potentially taking the North Carolina Tar Heels’ head coaching position.
Last week, it was reported that Bill Belichick spoke with the Tar Heels for their HC vacancy. The team had fired the legendary Mack Brown and named Freddie Kitchens the interim HC for their final game, a Wasabi Fenway Bowl clash with UConn.
Belichick has never coached at the collegiate level, beginning his NFL career as a Baltimore Colts assistant in 1975. He was employed by an NFL team every single year from 1975 to 2024 before leaving the New England Patriots in January.
During his appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” today, the former NFL punter briefly brought up Belichick’s interview with the Tar Heels. Before he signed off, Belichick simply said, “We’ll see.”
Thanks for laying out what it will look like IF North Carolina happens..

Belichick will be 75 years of old next year, so there are questions about how much longer he’ll want to coach for. Everyone knows that he wants to break Don Shula’s NFL coaching wins record, but going to UNC would suggest that Belichick is giving up on a return to the pros.
Bill Belichick Should Have Lots Of Interest From NFL Teams
There’s no shortage of NFL teams who should have real interest in Belichick if he doesn’t accept the offer from UNC. The Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, New Orleans Saints and Las Vegas Raiders all stand out as potential landing spots for the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach.
Belichick has a good relationship with Jaguars owner Shad Khan, so that would be a team to monitor. But if Belichick wants to join a talented team ready to win now, the Bears or Cowboys would be his best bet.
