The Appalachian State Mountaineers are getting set to start their 2024 campaign, and things are already off the rails.
Footage from a practice showed a disgusting moment when teammates got into a scuffle. This happens all the time, but one of them took the incident way too far.
An Appalachian State Mountaineers defensive lineman could be seen engaging with an offensive lineman during a regular practice play.
The quarterback on the team gets his pass away, but the unknown defensive player still finishes his rush and touches the quarterback, which is not something you are supposed to do when the quarterback is sporting a red jersey.
Once the Appalachian State defensive player touched him, the offensive lineman took exception and pushed him.
That is when things got crazy, and the defensive lineman ripped his teammate’s helmet off, wildly swung it, and connected on the head of the player, who stumbled off to the side before the footage cut off.

Nothing has come out about who the two players involved were or whether the player swinging the helmet will be suspended from the team or just outright kicked off the team due to his behavior.
As we know, a similar scenario played out in the NFL a few years ago when Myles Garrett took the helmet of Mason Rudolph and hit him with it.
Appalachian State Looking To Build On 2023 Season
Appalachian State went 9-5 last year and went to a bowl game as they won the Cure Bowl last year.
They scored 33.2 points per game (26th in the nation), while their defense allowed 27 (72nd), per The Stanley News Press.
The team has to replace at least eight starters from last year, but they hope to have an even better year in 2024.
