A veteran NASCAR reporter has came to the defense of not only Bubba Wallace but the ratings for the sport.
Monday morning, President Trump demanded an apology from Wallace, the sport’s only Black driver, after the FBI found out the noose found inside his garage stall had been there since 2019.
President Trump called the noose incident a “hoax” and appears to be upset with the Confederate flag decision. He also called out NASCAR’s low ratings.
“Has Bubba Wallace apologized to all of those great NASCAR drivers & officials who came to his aid, stood by his side, & were willing to sacrifice everything for him, only to find out that the whole thing was just another HOAX? That & Flag decision has caused lowest ratings EVER!” Trump tweeted on Monday morning.
Jeff Gluck, a veteran NASCAR reporter, jumped in the comment section and fired back at the President to clear up a few issues that he stated.
“Mr. President, your premise is false.
1) It wasn’t a “hoax.” Everyone involved truly believed it was threat directed at Wallace. And Wallace didn’t report it; he was informed about it.
2) There hasn’t been any noticeable impact on the ratings, which are not the lowest ever.”

It was last month when Wallace’s team found a noose in his garage stall at Talladega just shortly after the sport effectively banned all Confederate flags from events and races.
NASCAR released a photo of the noose shortly following the investigation.
“From the evidence that we have, that I have, it’s a straight-up noose,” Wallace said on CNN. “The FBI has stated it was a noose over and over again. NASCAR leadership has stated it was a noose. I can confirm that I actually got evidence of what was hanging in my garage over my car around my pit crew guys, to confirm that it was a noose.”
