Earlier this week, UTSA received some huge news when star quarterback Frank Harris announced he would return for his seventh season after securing a new NIL deal.
Harris is coming back for his seventh year.
“This is a very tough time,” Harris said. “I talk a lot of time, I’m praying, I’m talking with my family and I just think it’s best for me to come back one more season at UTSA and lead them to the AAC and I’m excited for it. Definitely appreciate all the support from our fans and I love the city of San Antonio and I wasn’t ready to leave yet. I love all the support, I love everybody in the city and I’m just blessed to be the quarterback at UTSA.
“Thank y’all once again. I’m back for my seventh year. Let’s go!”
How is this possible? ESPN explains:
“Harris redshirted in his first season in 2017, missed all of 2018 with an injury then was limited to four games the next season after suffering another season-ending injury. After both the redshirt and medical redshirts, he is eligible for a seventh season due to the COVID waiver granted to players by the NCAA.”

Harris, the greatest player in UTSA history, holds 34 school records. He’s been there for quite some time, so these records are likely to never fall.
Harris completed 71 percent of his passes this year for 3,865 yards, 31 touchdowns and ran for 588 yards and nine TDs as the Roadrunners, who were ranked No. 25 in the College Football Playoff’s final rankings, are headed to the Cure Bowl.
