The USC vs. Colorado clash showcasing Shedeur Sanders and Caleb Williams drew massive ratings for FOX on Saturday.
The Buffaloes have lost two straight games, to Oregon, as well as the Trojans. But that has hardly taken away from the allure of having Deion Sanders as a head coach, and the viewership numbers they’ve brought in have been nothing short of remarkable.
Considering the fact that the game featured two Heisman prospects, with one of them the current holder of the prestigious award, it was always going to be one of the most-watched events on television this past weekend.
According to Sports Media Watch (H/T Brett McMurphy of The Action Network), the showdown attracted 7.24 million viewers and a 4.0 rating and was the most-viewed NCAA football game of the weekend, beating CBS’s Georgia vs. Auburn (3.4 rating and 6.4 million viewers) and ABC’s Notre Dame vs. Duke (2.9 rating and 5.32 million viewers).
This is all the more impressive given that USC blew the Buffaloes out of the water in the first half and many viewers could have simply tuned out after the halftime break. Fortunately, Colorado did not disappoint in the second half and lost the game by a single score after nearly pulling off a remarkable comeback.
Their next game, against Arizona State, will air on the Pac-12 Network, which will be a first for the season. So it will be interesting to see how the ratings pan out.
