Former Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer made his early season predictions for the college football playoffs earlier today.
Meyer, a 3 time NCAA championship coach, unveiled his picks on this morning’s edition of ‘Big Noon Kickoff’, where he picked Georgia, LSU, Texas, and either Michigan or Ohio State to make the playoffs. When pushed, he seemed to favor Ohio State over Michigan, although we’re sure Buckeyes fans would have preferred to see their former coach choose them to win outright.
Meyer’s picks aren’t necessarily bad picks, as all five are among the top recruiting classes, and three of the five have won a championship over the last 10 years. Though he didn’t make a prediction for the game, these four teams are his picks to enter the championship.
All five teams, along with their success, all have major NIL deals in place and are nationally recognized programs that will expose their talents. Though Meyer may have a bias in favor of Ohio State, all of the teams he listed are currently in the top 5 of the AP Polls aside from Texas, which is ranked 11th.
This list is likely to make major changes over the next few weeks, but his early season picks feature heavy preseason favorites.
