Urban Meyer has weighed in on whether or not Ryan Day should be fired after the Ohio State Buckeyes lost a third-straight game to the Michigan Wolverines.
Michigan was without Jim Harbaugh for Saturday’s matchup as the head coach was serving the last of his three-game suspension. But his team ran out to a 30-24 win to secure progression to the Big Ten Championship Game, which he will be eligible to coach when it comes around next week.
Meyer, Day’s predecessor at Ohio State, doesn’t think the current HC should get fired and doesn’t believe he will. While Day’s dropped three consecutive games to Michigan, he does boast a 56-7 record with the program.
“No, [Ryan Day] is not under fire,” Meyer said on the FOX postgame broadcast (H/T CBS Sports). “As far as job security, no, he’s not. Reality is, is he under fire? Yeah, he is. He lives in Columbus, Ohio, and he’s the Ohio State head football coach. And that’s real.
“You just feel for the families, you feel for Ryan Day’s family. But it’s a big-boy business. He’s a big boy. He’ll handle it, come back, and you know what, go back in January, get back to work, find a way to beat the Wolverines. That’s the whole focus.”
Although Meyer is backing Day, several former Buckeyes want him gone and have expressed as much on social media. You can see a few of their reactions below:

So is Ryan Day’s job at Ohio State safe? We’ll have to wait and see. But it would come as a surprise if he got fired over this, as monumental as it is.
