In recent days, there has been speculation about Urban Meyer coming out of retirement to coach the Michigan State Spartans. But according to the man himself, there is no truth to the rumors.
Tom Lemming of CBS Sports recently met with Meyer, who told him that there’s no interest in returning to the sidelines. Meyer also told Lemming that he’s pleased with his role as an analyst at FOX Sports.
Harlon Barnett is the interim head coach of the Spartans, taking over the program following Mel Tucker’s firing. Tucker was fired following allegations of sexual harassment.
One of the greatest NCAA football coaches of all time, Meyer coached Bowling Green (2001 to 2002), Utah (2003 to 2004), Florida (2005 to 2010) and Ohio State 2012 to 2018). Meyer won three national championships as a head coach, with Florida in 2006 and 2008 and with the Buckeyes in 2014.
Meyer was hired as the Jacksonville Jaguars’ new head coach in 2021, but the tenure was nothing short of disastrous. Early in the season, a video surfaced of Meyer getting close to a woman who wasn’t his wife at the restaurant he owned in Columbus.

Former Jacksonville kicker Josh Lambo also alleged that Meyer kicked him in the leg several times ahead of a preseason game. This was the last straw for owner Shad Khan, who fired Meyer with just three games to go.
