Texas Longhorns starting quarterback Quinn Ewers is reported to be coming back for another season after this one.
The QB was expected to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft but is now expected to remain in Texas in a move that could make life a hell of a lot more difficult for Arch Manning.
Manning, who hails from a family of famous quarterbacks, is the grandson of two-time Pro Bowler Archie Manning while Peyton and Eli Manning are also his uncles. He is expected to preserve his family’s reputation in the NFL at some point, but the 18-year-old has the small matter of landing a starting position in college to deal with right now.
While Arch was probably not expecting to unseat Ewers as the starter this term, he must have thought that he would start after the latter got injured earlier in the season. Turns out it was not the case as Maalik Murphy got the nod ahead of him.
Rumors of a potential transfer have since surfaced and it’s now thought that he’s definitely leaving Texas now that Ewers has decided to stay.
Archie, though, has insisted that his grandson is happy with his decision to commit to the program. The 74-year-old spoke to The Spun in a recent interview and pointed out that Arch is in a great situation.

“Every situation is different. If you remember, Peyton and Eli went to school early for spring training. Peyton got thrown in for his first game as a freshman. He played a great deal that season. Tennessee had a great offensive line and two really good running backs, so that allowed him to work into it.
“Eli had what I think is the best course. He redshirt his first year, was a backup in his second year, and then started in his third year. I think it’s a big jump. Arch played 2A Football, as did Peyton and Eli. Every situation is different.
“I think the most unfortunate thing was that Quinn Ewers got hurt. He was having a great year. I think Maalik (Murphy) has done some great things filling in. Arch is happy with the decision he made. All the reports we get is that he’s doing well. He’s going to get a redshirt out of this year, and I think that’s important.”
The comments were made before the news on Ewers broke but it shouldn’t change anything as Arch’s career path is concerned, the way his grandfather sees it. Still, a number of top programs have been named as potential destinations for the QB amid the latest developments in Texas.
