Trash talking is a part of every sport, as is fan heckling. Unfortunately for fans, sometimes a player hears you.
On a video making the rounds on social media, a TCU fan yelled out to Colorado’s star Wide Receiver and Cornerback Travis Hunter that he’s “overrated as f***,” which Hunter heard before the Horned Frog’s home game against the Buffaloes. As a fan, they don’t have to back up their statements, and in TCU’s case, the team had to pay for it.
Hunter responded with 11 catches for 119 yards and an interception in TCU’s heartbreaking home loss to the Buffaloes 45-42. Following the interception, the camera searched for the fan who called Hunter out nobody spoke up.
Fans heckle players, and it will always happen, but remember, watch who you call out. Some players will take that edge to the game and silence the talkers. And the fact that Hunter heard the fan, added extra motivation for a team looking to establish themselves early in the season.
It’s hard to call someone overrated when they back up their play and win. As for the fan, keep that same energy whether leading or trailing.
