After a three-game absence, Colorado Buffaloes’ two-way star Travis Hunter appears ready to return in Friday’s game against the Stanford Cardinal.
The standout cornerback and wide receiver suffered a lacerated liver on a hit while out of bounds by Henry Blackburn of the Colorado Rams on Sept. 16. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Hunter is currently “on track to play” tonight, though he’ll likely be on a limited snap count.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Hunter has been a force on both sides of the ball for Deion Sanders’ club. As a wide receiver, Hunter has 16 receptions for 213 yards. As a cornerback, he has two pass defenses and one interception.
In his final year at Jackson State with Prime Time, Hunter had eight pass defenses and two interceptions to go along with 18 receptions for 190 yards and four touchdowns.
Led by Hunter and the all-world play of quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Colorado got off to a perfect 3-0 start, highlighted by a 45-42 upset win over the TCU Horned Frogs in the season opener. But the Buffs’ defense struggled mightily without Hunter, giving up 42 and 48 points in their losses to Oregon and USC, respectively.
Though the defense once again struggled last week, the Buffaloes rebounded with a 27-24 victory over the Arizona State Sun Devils last week.
