Travis Hunter could end up sticking to a single position, or at least not taking as many snaps on one end, after what happened to the Colorado Buffaloes this weekend.
The Buffs contrived to give up a 29-point lead to the Stanford Cardinal in what was an embarrassing affair at Folsom Field on Friday and should be happy to be going into a bye week.
One of the biggest storylines heading into the game was Travis Hunter’s return. The star cornerback/wide receiver had a great game offensively, making 13 receptions for 140 yards and two touchdowns. But he struggled on defense as the Cardinal staged a comeback with their bombs from the air, with Hunter looking almost powerless.
The NFL Rookie Watch X account is reporting that NFL scouts are insisting that Hunter might have to focus on one position in order to maximize his draft value.
While he’s been a stud on offense, Hunter has allowed 223 yards, three touchdowns, and a 91.2 passer rating this season. It’s certainly not a good look for one of the most highly-rated cornerbacks in the NCAA, but it also might have to do with the amount of time he spends on the field – plus playing on both ends right after returning from injury was probably not ideal.
It’s going to be interesting to see how Deion Sanders opts to utilize Hunter when they play UCLA on October 28. Where his NFL prospects are concerned, Hunter will have at least another season to work on his stock as he’s not eligible until 2025.
