It’s incredibly rare to see a two-way athlete in football, but the Colorado Buffaloes’ Travis Hunter is doing it and getting comparisons to one of sport’s top players.
Hunter, who is playing both starting Wide Receiver and Cornerback, is being compared to MLB’s runaway MVP Shohei Ohtani as an unbelievable superstar at two separate positions. Ohtani, who is a Starting Pitcher and a Designated Hitter, is 10-5 as a starter this season, but is also leading the MLB in home runs with 44 total.
Getting compared to Ohtani is a massive nod to how skilled Hunter really is. Hunter in his first game against the TCU Horned Frogs, caught 11 passes for 118 yards and 2 touchdowns on offense, but had 3 tackles and an interception on defense. His play was crucial for the Buffaloes 45-42 victory on the road.
Whether Hunter has the stamina or can take the physical play for the rest of the season remains to be seen, but his play on both sides of the field is impressive, and his name being mentioned with a runaway MVP is a testament to his ability.
