A tornado watch has been issued in Texas and Louisiana ahead of today’s College Football Playoff National Championship game in Houston.
The Weather Nation X/Twitter account reported that a “tornado watch has been issued for Texas and Louisiana” through 9 p.m. Central Time. This includes the Houston area, the site of the showdown between Michigan and Washington.
The game will be held at NRG Stadium, the home of the NFL’s Houston Texans. The same venue will host the Texans’ Super Wild Card Round playoff game against the Cleveland Browns this Saturday.
The No. 1 ranked Wolverines are trying to win their first national championship since the 1997 group that was led by legendary head coach Lloyd Carr. The No. 2 ranked Huskies are trying to win the program’s first national championship since 1991.
Both Michigan and Washington enter Monday night’s clash with undefeated records. Quarterbacks J.J. McCarthy (Michigan) and Michael Penix Jr. (Washington) are also widely projected to be first-round picks in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.
Stay safe out there, residents of Texas and Houston, and be sure to follow the advice of local authorities in case of a tornado.
