A top-rated SEC quarterback intends to enter the transfer portal ahead of next season.
247 Sports is reporting that Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers, who has been one of the most productive signal-callers in conference history, is expected to become a free agent following the Bulldogs’ season ending with an Egg Bowl loss to Ole Miss on Thursday.
Rogers, a Mississippi native, was a three-star recruit for the Bulldogs and has been their starting QB for the past four seasons.
“Just proud of the team, proud of the seniors, the real fighters,” he was quoted as saying after the 17-7 loss. “It would’ve been so easy just to tap out and let a really good team just walk all over us. But I gave it all, man. I can honestly say I’ve been here four years and I’ve never taken a day off or anything like that.”
The 22-year-old will leave the program with 12,315 career passing yards, the second most in SEC history, and 94 passing touchdowns, the fourth-best in the history of the conference. He has also reached the 300-yard passing mark in 19 games.
The QB graduated from Mississippi State in May and can enter the portal at any point as he would be a graduate transfer, though all Mississippi State undergrads are able to enter the portal before it officially opens on December 4 as former head coach Zach Arnett was fired on November 13.
