Jahneil Douglas, a junior defensive tackle on the University of Toledo football team, was tragically shot and killed on Tuesday night. He was just 22-years-old.
According to WTOL, Douglas was shot outside of a pizza restaurant in Toledo where police state there was a fight outside of the restaurant between two men. Douglas was transported to the hospital, where he later died.
“We were all shocked to learn of the tragic death of Jahneil Douglas,” Toledo athletic director Mike O’Brien said. “This is a devastating loss for our football team and our University, and a very sad day for all of us in Rocket Nation. Our deepest condolences go out to Jahneil’s family and friends.”
Rockets head coach Jason Candle described Douglas as a “hard-working young man who was loved by his teammates and coaches.”
“The Toledo Football family is heartbroken by the loss of Jahneil,” Candle said. “He was a hard-working young man who was loved by all his teammates and coaches. Our sincerest condolences go out to Jahneil’s family and friends during these difficult times. Jahneil will forever be a part of the Rocket Football family.”
The 6-foot-3, 300-pound Douglas played in a combined 12 games over the past two seasons, registering two tackles.
