Veteran college football reporter Tim Brando continues to criticize the media’s coverage of Deion Sanders.
The Colorado Buffaloes head coach’s name has been on everyone’s lips this season and his popularity hasn’t waned in spite of two straight losses to Oregon and USC in the last two weeks.
Last week, Brando told Fox News Digital that Sanders’ impact on the college football scene is deeper than race. And, speaking on OutKick’s ‘Hot Mic’ this Monday, the Fox Sports announcer doubled down with claims that some outlets are “appealing to the lowest common denominator.”
“Those that want to make this and have been appealing to the lowest common denominator in media and just making it about race are completely missing the point,” he said (H/T Foxnews.com).
“Seventy-five percent of the players that are in college football are Black. The fact that there are Black coaches, Black head coaches, that was a battleground conversation with the Black Head Coaches Association years ago, which I’m happy to say Spencer Tillman and I were on the forefront of and we’re talking about it for years while we were at CBS.”
“But Deion’s doing this … and to say that Colorado is certainly Black America’s team – that was on four or five different websites that you would figure it might be on, politically slanted, but then you saw a few sports websites go in that direction, too, legitimate websites – and I think that’s appealing to the lowest common denominator,” he continued.
Brando also praised Deion for his manipulation of the transfer portal, which he has used to bring some of the best talent in America to Boulder, including his sons Shedeur and Shilo, as well as Travis Hunter.

NIL has been another weapon Coach Prime has used to the Buffaloes’ advantage.
“Deion’s done this in one year’s time, and he flipped it completely – something other coaches have never done,” Brando added.
“You could either embrace it and move forward, understanding you better play this game, or if you fight it, you will eventually lose, and you’ll be done because the boat has sailed, and you’re not going to bring back into the dock.”
The Buffs will hope to return to winning ways when they face Arizona State on Saturday.
