On Thursday night, many in the United States were stunned to be able to see the famous Northern Lights.
Of course, being able to visibly see them can be considered a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but playing a football game underneath them might be even rarer.
That happened at the James Madison University and Coastal Carolina games.
Chief Meteorologist Aubrey Urbanowicz of WHSV took to social media to post a photo of the game being played at JMU’s home stadium in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
The lights can be seen in the sky, which look like shades of green, blue, and purple.
Of course, the rare sight had many on social media comments.

“Wow! Those lights are bright and you can still see it. So glad you’re all getting nice lights like we get up here! Everyone should see them in their lives,” said one comment.
“Holy crap that is absolutely insane,” said another.
“That’s bonkers. Very cool,” added a third.
It’s truly an amazing sight for anyone lucky enough to be in a spot to see them.
Those Northern Lights Must Have Given JMU Special Powers.
JMU is a great football program, but the Northern Lights must have given them powers like they smacked down on Coastal Carolina.
The final score was 39-7, and James Madison quarterback Alonza Barnett put on a show. He completed 16 of 28 passes for 199 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions.
The rushing game also looked good as running back George Pettaway had 13 carries for 89 yards.
Currently, James Madison is third in the SBC East with a 5-1 record, sitting behind Georgie Southern in first and Marshall in second.
Last year, the team went 11-2 and will look to continue to compete in just their third season at the FBS level.
