Texas quarterback and former four-star recruit Maalik Murphy has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, he announced on social media.
This came as a shock as many thought it would be Arch Manning headed for the portal since he sat in the third QB position behind Ewers and Murphy.
Murphy finished the regular season with 477 passing yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions as he filled in for Quinn Ewers who suffered a shoulder injury.
This means Manning should be the No. 2 quarterback on the Longhorns’ depth chart for the 2024 season.

Murphy will not participate in the College Football Playoff, leaving five-star freshman Arch Manning as the primary backup to Quinn Ewers.
Multiple reports have indicated Ewers is contemplating a return to school instead of entering the NFL Draft. If that happens, Murphy’s pathway to the full-time starting job would get much more difficult as a talented Manning waits in the wings.
Murphy should quickly become one of the most sought after signal-callers in the transfer portal.
