Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers strongly hinted at entering the transfer portal after the 2024 NCAA season, albeit with a cryptic response.
Speculation has grown about Quinn Ewers potentially entering the transfer portal instead of declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft. The Longhorns are set to hand the keys over to highly-touted QB Arch Manning next year, and Manning could make millions on a lucrative NIL (name, likeness, image) deal if he goes to another school.
Speaking to reporters ahead of Friday’s Cotton Bowl and College Football Playoff semifinal game with Ohio State, Ewers didn’t exactly pour cold water over speculation about entering the transfer portal, per Dan Wolken of USA Today Sports.
“I mean, right now, I’m just, I’m just not worried about all that stuff. I mean, people can say all they want to say, but, you know, I’m just focused on focus on Friday at this point in time.”
In a follow-up question, Wolken asked Ewers if the rest of the postseason could influence a decision on his future. Ewers again kept it low-key and said, “That’s a great question” to Wolken.

Only Quinn Ewers knows deep down what he may be leaning toward, but it’s certainly interesting that he didn’t try to quiet the buzz about entering the transfer portal. And who knows? Perhaps the results of the CFP will truly influence his decision.

Though Ewers has long been regarded as a top QB prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft, this year’s class isn’t considered deep on signal-callers. Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward headline the class, but there’s tremendous debate among scouts and analysts about where they should be selected.
Quinn Ewers Looks To Extend His Career Year
Despite missing time to injury, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Ewers has put together a career year for Steve Sarkisian and company. He’s completed 66.5 percent of pass attempts for 3,189 yards, 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions to go along with two rushing scores.
The winner of Ohio State vs. Texas will go up against the victor of Penn State vs. Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff national championship.
