Pitchers in softball are always susceptible to taking a ball to the face, but usually it’s via a comebacker of the bat of an opponent, rather than a throw from your own catcher.
During a game between Texas and Alabama at the 2019 NCAA Softball Tournament, Longhorns pitcher Miranda Elish was a victim of the latter, resulting in quite the scary scene during the second inning of this Super Regional contest.
The bad news is that Miranda had to be stretchered off and taken to the hospital in an ambulance. The good news is she has since been released and is said to be in good spirits.
